ALYC General Membership meeting

Starting on January 1, 2023, all persons 50 years of age or younger are required to have a CA Boating card. Come join us as we find out what the requirements are and how to get the card. Our guest speaker for the evening is Scott Maberry. Scott is one of the authors of the CA boating card training requirements. One of the topics of discussion will be how members can obtain the card without paying for a commercial training course.  With the exception of the small state fee, the process can be free!

Scott Maberry Bio:

Scott Maberry is a retired Sergeant with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Scott served 30 years in Sacramento and spent the last 9 years of his career as the supervisor of the Marine Enforcement Detail running the boat unit, dive team and search & rescue teams.

Scott served for 8 years on the California State Sheriff’s Association Boating & Watercraft Safety Committee as the Legislative Chair. Scott co-wrote language and testified before the California State Assembly Transportation Committee in the furtherance of boater safety and education.

Scott returned to his hometowns of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach in early 2020. Scott is currently an American Legion Post 291 SAL, American Legion Yacht Club member, and a City of Newport Beach Harbor Department Lead Harbor Services Worker.

We will have a buffet dinner.  The price will be $20 (including tax and tip) for reservation and $25 at the door.  Please register in advance as the meals at the door may be limited and we may sell out.
